Neuroscience Teacher-Scholar Postdoctoral Fellowship at Wake Forest University

Wake Forest University. The Department of Psychology invites applications for a Teacher-Scholar Postdoctoral Fellow position with a specialization in Neuroscience effective July 1, 2026.

Qualifications: An earned Ph.D. in Psychology, Neuroscience, or a related field is required for the position; ABD candidates are invited to apply. Qualified applicants will demonstrate their ability to teach courses in Psychology and Neuroscience, initiate and sustain original research and scholarship in Psychology and Neuroscience, and contribute to an academic environment that fosters learning and growth for all its stakeholders.

Position Summary: This is a unique postdoctoral training opportunity because it provides training and mentorship in both research and teaching. It is a great position for early-career scholars that are interested in getting more teaching experience, learning how to balance teaching and research, and preparing for the academic job market. Dr. Christian Waugh will be the primary faculty mentor for this position. It is expected that the postdoc will have interests and experience in affective and/or social neuroscience, with specific expertise in fMRI and/or EEG. It is preferred that the successful candidate also has interests/expertise in coding, modelling, and/or reinforcement learning. The fellow will have opportunities to help conduct an fMRI study next year on computationally modelling social engagement, apply new reinforcement learning models to existing datasets, and possibly conduct EEG studies on emotion and emotion regulation.

Teaching responsibilities include being the Instructor of Record for two courses per semester and working with faculty in the Psychology Department to develop and implement those courses in accordance with best pedagogical practices. Courses taught will be at the intersection of Psychology and Neuroscience (for example, Biopsychology or Methods in Neuroscience).  The position is for one year, with the possibility of renewing for an additional 2 years (thus, the position is for a maximum of 3 years).
