Characterizing the contributions of hot and cool inhibitory control to post-traumatic stress disorder in post-9/11 Veterans
Objectives: 1) Comprehensively characterize the nature of hot (emotional) and cool inhibitory control dysfunction in PTSD. 2) Examine the neural mechanisms of inhibitory control deficits in PTSD using task-based fMRI. 3) Examine the relationship between inhibitory control and PTSD symptoms in everyday
life using ecological momentary assessments (EMA).
Description: The study coordinator will be involved in all aspects of targeted recruiting of post-9/11 Veterans that meet the inclusion/exclusion criteria, performing screening, administering cognitive and clinical
assessments (e.g., depression, PTSD), coordinating and running fMRI scans, and managing participant compliance with EMA. This position requires advanced skills in terms of clinical assessment, communication, and logistics management. The study coordinator will also be involved in data analysis, manuscript preparation, and presenting findings. The position will provide an excellent opportunity for training in the fields of cognitive neuroscience, clinical psychology, and neuropsychology, and will uniquely prepare the individual for clinical, cognitive, or neuroscience graduate school programs. The study coordinator will be part of theNational Center for PTSD (https://www.ptsd.va.gov/about/divisions/behavioral/index.asp) and the Boston Attention and Learning Lab (https://www.bu.edu/ballab/index.html). This position will be in-person, based at VA Boston Healthcare System in Jamaica Plain.
Background required: College degree in psychology, neuroscience or related field and interest in making a career in such a field. Previous research experience.
Skills required: The candidate must be highly organized and have excellent people skills. Technical skills such as knowledge of statistical methods and programming are also a plus.
Citizenship: Must be a United States citizen.
Start date: We are looking for someone who can start in the summer of 2023 and commit to two years.
Salary: $ 52,527 plus full benefits
