Lab Manager for Laboratory on Social & Affective Neuroscience (PI: Abigail Marsh)

The Laboratory on Social & Affective Neuroscience directed by Abigail Marsh is seeking a new laboratory manager/paid RA to begin in summer of 2024!

The research conducted by our lab is aimed at answering questions like:

  • How do we understand what others think and feel?
  • What drives us to help other people?
  • What prevents us from harming them?

Specific areas of research include altruism, empathy, aggression, and psychopathy. Approaches include structural and functional fMRI, psychophysiology, cognitive and behavioral laboratory research, and research in clinical populations.

The Department of Psychology at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, is home to a diverse and collaborative community of scholars who conduct research in psychology, neuroscience, and public policy. Research by Faculty in the Department of Psychology – from basic science investigations of behavior and brain function to applications for public policy – is directed at Georgetown University’s goal of creating and communicating knowledge in the service of the common good.

The lab manager position is a research and training position that is suitable for students graduating with a degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, or a related discipline and who are anticipating applying for PhD programs in one of these fields after completing this position.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, or a closely related discipline
  • At least 1 year of experience working in psychology or neuroscience research laboratory with human subjects
  • Quantitative training sufficient to conduct data cleaning and coding and preliminary data analysis, and training undergraduate research assistants in these tasks
  • Human interaction skills for working with a team of researchers, university administrative staff, and study participants
  • Self-directedness and excellent organizational skills.

The Lab Manager is a 2-year term year position ending on or about June 30, 2026.
