The Department of Psychological Science (PSYC), in collaboration with the African and African American Studies (AAST) Program at the University of Arkansas, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Psychology with a joint appointment with African and African American Studies to start on 8/11/2025. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment with a competitive startup package. Although area of research is open, we prefer candidates whose research complements existing research areas in the Department of Psychological Science and in the program of African and African American Studies.
About the Department of Psychological Science:
The PSYC department houses a large undergraduate program (over 1,500 students), as well as two Ph.D. programs in Clinical Psychology and Experimental Psychology. The department has over 25 full-time faculty with a wide range of expertise in psychological science, 4 full-time administrative staff, over 40 doctoral students (PhD), and several postdoctoral fellows. The Department is also home to a major private endowment that generates over $250K/year to support its research mission. This endowment funds graduate research assistants, faculty research, summer pay for grant preparation, and other research-related expenses. In addition to being jointly appointed with PSYC and AAST, faculty will have the opportunity to be part of the Institute for Integrative and Innovative Research (I3R; https://i3r.uark.edu). This interdisciplinary institute will inhabit a new building that opens in 2024 and will house the new Siemens 3T Cima.X scanner, additional human neuroimaging suites (EEG, fNIRS, TMS), a mobile virtual reality room, a sleep lab, and metabolic labs.
