Professional Research Assistant, University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, Division of Internal Medicine

August 15, 2022

The research assistant will work with Dr. Yoni Ashar and Dr. Joseph Frank on developing and testing novel mind-body approaches in the assessment and treatment of chronic pain. Our research group is studying an emerging paradigm that centers psychological and neurobiological processes as primary contributors in most cases of chronic pain. We are working to develop treatments targeting mind and brain processes to provide substantial relief and recovery from chronic pain. Research assistant responsibilities will include assistance with clinical trials, fMRI neuroimaging, physiological measurement, interoceptive methodologies, and natural language processing methods investigating these processes. Opportunities for data analysis and manuscript preparation and submission will be available according to the interest of the applicant.

Projects the research assistant will work on include clinical trials of pain reprocessing therapy (PRT), opioid tapering interventions, effects of cannabis and mindfulness on pain processing, and somatic mindfulness interventions. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, flexible, and independent. People with prior research experience and people with lived experiences of chronic pain and other chronic symptoms are encouraged to apply. This position will provide excellent preparation for doctoral programs in psychology, neuroscience, and related fields, for medical training, and for training as a pain clinician across disciplines.

The position is hybrid in-person/remote, and the applicant must be available to work on the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus several days a week. Applicants interested in either full-time or part-time positions will be considered.

Please contact Dr. Ashar directly if interested with a CV or resume and cover letter at
