POSITION TITLE: Lead Research Specialist (Research Assistant / Technicians)
The Emotion Cognition and Computation Laboratory at Emory University (PI: Philip Kragel) is seeking a Lead Research Specialist. Our lab combines computational modeling, neuroimaging, and behavioral experiments to understand cognitive and affective components of human behavior.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Under minimal supervision, handles administrative activities generally associated with the conduct of laboratory research.
- Provides guidance to less experienced staff.
- Manages research project databases, develops flow sheets and other study related documents, and completes source documents/case report forms.
- Interfaces with research participants, determines eligibility and consents study participants according to protocol.
- Approves orders for supplies and equipment maintenance.
- Assists in developing recruitment strategies and conducting screenings for study participants including interviews and questionnaires.
- Establishes case packages for study procedures, monitors scheduling of procedures and charges, and coordinates other services as needed.
- Ensures compliance with research protocols, reviews case report forms and audits for accuracy with source documents, and attends monitoring meetings with sponsors.
- Performs related approved responsibilities as required.
- May assist in protocol design.
- Investigates and proposes alternative experimental procedures for consideration by a principal investigator.
- Analyzes and interprets non-diagnostic results of studies.
- Demonstrates and trains others in the proper use/operation of laboratory techniques and equipment.
- Reviews literature for related research developments and techniques and compiles findings.
- Monitors laboratory processes to maintain quality assurance standards.
- Records results of studies, compiles and analyzes data and prepares charts and graphs.
- Monitors the handling, storage and disposal of hazardous substances.
- Performs related, approved non-clinical responsibilities as required.
ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:
- Develop and conduct functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), behavioral, and online (e.g., Amazon Mechanical Turk, Pavlovia) experiments.
- Preprocess and analyze neuroimaging data.
- Develop and maintain analysis software.
- Create and maintain lab documentation.
- Provide technical support for lab personnel.
- Help maintain software and computing infrastructure for the lab.
- Assist with administrative responsibilities and financial documents.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field and two years of research experience, or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, neuroscience, engineering, computer science, or related field.
- 1-2 years previous research experience in a cognitive neuroscience lab (exposure to neuroimaging is preferred).
- Experience with scientific computing (proficiency with GitHub, MATLAB, R, Python, JavaScript and experience with PsychToolbox, PsychoPy, and jsPsych).
- Special consideration will be given to individuals with experience collecting and/or analyzing high-dimensional datasets.
- Self-motivation, good organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively with others in a fast-paced environment.
