Lab Manager Position in Neuroimaging Research on Decision Making and Aging

The Social-Cognitive and Affective Development Laboratory at the University of Florida is hiring a full-time lab manager who will assist in the conduct of fMRI experiments related to decision making in aging as part of our NIH-funded research program.

The position will be supervised by Dr. Natalie Ebner at the University of Florida, in close collaboration with Dr. Nichole Lighthall at the University of Central Florida and Dr. Bob Wilson at the University of Arizona. The initial position is a 2-year appointment, with
subsequent renewals depending on funding availability. Preferred start date is beginning of 2024 but is negotiable.

The successful candidate will play an integral role in every stage of research, including (1) stimulus/task development and programming experiments, (2) study coordination/planning, (3) recruitment and collection of human subject data, (4) analysis of data, and (5) assisting in the preparation of grants and manuscripts. In addition, in their managerial capacity they will perform administrative duties (e.g., IRB administration, purchasing) and help train and supervise lab personnel (e.g., undergraduate research assistants). This position is ideal for individuals interested in pursuing graduate studies in psychology and/or neuroscience, as it
will foster expertise in a variety of theoretical and methodological approaches in these fields.

  • Building lab infrastructure (e.g., purchasing, setting up computers and other hardware, developing internal data storage systems, developing lab manual) Conducting research (e.g., writing IRBs, recruiting participants, collecting behavioral/neuroimaging/developmental/online data, analyzing data, and sharing results through papers, posters, and talks)
  • Supporting lab research (e.g., assisting with literature searches, study design, stimuli preparation, data collection, analyses, manuscript and grant preparation)
  • Building and supporting lab community (e.g., facilitating lab communication and organizing lab events)
  • Hiring and managing a team of undergraduate research assistants


  • Essential Qualifications
    • A bachelor’s degree in psychology, neuroscience, sociology, education, biomedical engineering, or other related science fields
    • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
    • Ability to communicate effectively with others (e.g., participants, other lab members, collaborators)
    • Be detail-oriented, motivated, efficient, and able to work independently
    • Be able to occasionally work nonstandard hours (e.g., evenings, weekends), depending on participant availability
    • The final candidate must successfully pass a background check and approval by UF Human Resources
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Proficiency with statistical and programming languages/software (e.g., SPSS, R, Matlab, java, python)
    • Prior experience conducting empirical research on questions related to the lab’s research focus
    • Prior experience managing others
    • Experience with decision science and cognitive aging is a plus
