Graduate Program Manager, University of Virginia School of Arts & Sciences

A Graduate Training Program, Interdisciplinary Studies of the Phenotype: EXPANDing Training in Research and Careers, seeks applications for a Program Manager. This Program, supported by a 5-year National Science Foundation grant, will develop an academic curriculum, professional training, and career internships for graduate students. It will recruit students interested in studies of the phenotype, and generally strengthen multi-disciplinary research in life sciences at UVA. The specific duties of the position include program coordination across faculty and graduate students in Arts & Science and Biomedical Science Departments, development and support for programs aimed at student recruitment and training, scheduling and organizing meetings in support of program objectives, development and maintenance of websites and tracking budgets. In addition to the logistics and coordination support listed above, the Program Manager will be responsible for coordinating and assisting in the evaluation of the program and the writing of required reports to the National Science Foundation on progress and milestones.

    • Gain familiarity with the entire scope and requirements of project. Oversee project deadlines, and make recommendations to project leadership.
    • Ensure that executive sponsor and other key stakeholders are aware of project status and any barriers to successful project performance.
    • Develop appropriate methods to handle information. Interpret information and make informed decisions based on analysis.
    • Maintain knowledge of and work in compliance with current organizational policies and procedures relating to the execution of a project.
    • Support teams, committees, and tasks or functions related to projects.
    • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

This is a restricted position contingent on continued funding.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor’s degree
Experience: Two years of experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Licensure: None.
Preferred Experience: Experience in programmatic and administrative support in an office setting. Must have strong writing, organizational and Interpersonal communication skills and experience in team building. Incumbent must be proficient in Microsoft Office.

Preferred applicants will have experience in the administration of higher education academic environments with emphasis on life science fields.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
